A research organisation analysed invention patent applications handled by Chinese agencies and published a ranking of the top 100 agencies by grant rate. Agencies were divided into four groups according to total grants: over 10,000; 5,000–10,000; 2,000–5,000; and fewer than 2,000. DEQI’s grant rate was 78.22%, placing it second among agencies with more than 10,000 granted invention patents.
The table lists the 17 agencies in that group, their total invention patent grants, grant rates and rankings by grant volume. DEQI had 11,619 grants, ranking fifteenth by volume and second by grant rate.
The original report noted that many of the other agencies principally represented foreign applicants and handled more applications prepared through translation. DEQI represented both foreign applicants and a large number of Chinese enterprises, carrying out more original drafting work. Its grant rate therefore also reflected its capabilities in that work.
