The growth rate of Chinese trademark applications had increased since 2013. In 2017, filings reached 5.748 million, a year-on-year increase of 55.7%; both the volume and growth rate set records.
By the end of 2017, cumulative applications totaled 27.842 million, cumulative registrations 17.301 million and registrations in force 14.92 million. China had ranked first worldwide for 17 consecutive years.
Chinese applicants filed 4,810 Madrid international trademark applications in 2017, up 59.6% from 2016 and ranking third among Madrid Union members.
