According to the 2023 IP5 Statistics Report jointly issued by the world's five major intellectual property offices (IP5), a comparison of China's invention patent grant rate and examination time with the other four patent offices reveals that China's patent examination speed ranks second fastest among the IP5, trailing only Japan while surpassing South Korea and Europe. By April 2025, CNIPA had reduced the average invention patent examination cycle to 15.5 months. China maintains the lowest invention patent grant rate across the IP5 offices.
