China received 825,136 invention patent applications in 2013, approximately one-third of the worldwide total. It also received around 892,000 utility model applications, accounting for about 91% of the world total, and around 659,000 design applications, accounting for approximately 70%.
WIPO reported approximately 1.88 million trademark application class counts for China in 2013, the highest national total. Worldwide trademark application class counts totalled approximately 7 million. The class-count measure counts the classes specified in applications; it is distinct from the number of applications.
