WIPO’s statistics for 2016 show that applicants based in China filed 43,168 international patent applications under the PCT, a year-on-year increase of 44.7%. China ranked third, after the United States (56,595) and Japan (45,239). ZTE Corporation (4,123) overtook Huawei Technologies (3,692) as the largest PCT applicant.
