WIPO: 40% of the global patent applications for AI come from China

On November 8, 2023, Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2023 World Internet Conference, pointed out that at present, 60% of the computer technology patents, 40% of artificial intelligence patents and 33% of semiconductor patent applications worldwide come from China.

Daren Tang said that various types of intellectual property rights are actively promoting the growth of the digital economy. At present, about one-third of the inventions in the world are related to digital technology. In recent years, the growth rate of digital-related innovative technology patents far exceeds other patent categories. The largest China users of the WIPO's Madrid international trademark system are two smartphone companies, namely Huawei and Honor; The largest China users of WIPO’s Hague international design system are two consumer electronics companies, Xiaomi and Lenovo.
