When conducting a similarity search for a figurative trademark on the China Trademark Website of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), can a trademark image file be uploaded to perform the search?
Starting from May 22, 2026, the Trademark Office of the China National Intellectual Property Administration officially launched the “search by image” function in the “Online Trademark Search System” on the China Trademark Website. Users can directly conduct similarity searches for figurative trademarks by uploading trademark image files.
As shown below, select “Image retrieval,” and upload a compliant trademark image in the “Retrieve image” section to conduct the search.
Supported image formats are PNG, JPEG and JPG. The file size must not exceed 2MB.
