Recently, the Beijing Intellectual Property Court released the "White Paper on the Judicial Work of the Beijing Intellectual Property Court in the Past Ten Years (2014-2024)" (hereinafter referred to as the "White Paper"), which introduces the court's trial data, typical cases and judgment rules.
The Beijing Intellectual Property Court was established on November 6, 2014. As of October 2024, the court has accepted 201,984 cases and concluded 195,506 cases, covering the entire field of intellectual property rights, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, unfair competition and monopoly.
The White Paper shows that by October 2024, the Beijing Intellectual Property Court had accepted 137,435 trademark cases, accounting for 68.04% of the total number of cases accepted. In the ten years since its establishment, the Beijing Intellectual Property Court has handled more than 36,000 foreign-related intellectual property cases, with parties from more than 100 countries and regions, and foreign-related cases accounted for nearly 20%.
In addition, the Beijing Intellectual Property Court has increased the application of punitive damages in accordance with the law. Since its establishment, the court has applied punitive damages in 16 cases, with an average compensation amount of RMB 12.308 million, and a maximum award of RMB70.56 million.
