At a recent symposium between Customs and Chinese intellectual property owners, it was reported that Customs seized approximately 100 million infringing import and export items in 2011. About 20 million infringed intellectual property owned by Chinese rights holders.

Customs has continuously strengthened enforcement against infringing goods, helping enterprises with their own brands recover and expand overseas markets. For example, Customs enforcement helped Guangdong Zhongshan Lanju Daily Chemical Industry Co., Ltd.’s Chrysanthemum-brand mosquito coils increase their African market share by 15% in 2009. Following more than 60 enforcement actions concerning Galaxy-brand cotton–polyester fabric of Orient International (Group) Shanghai Textiles Import & Export Co., Ltd., its total exports tripled.

As Customs protection has strengthened, more domestic enterprises have sought its assistance. More than 8,000 intellectual property rights belonging to Chinese rights holders have been recorded with the General Administration of Customs, exceeding the combined number recorded by enterprises from other countries and regions. Report dated April 26, 2012.
