The Supreme People's Court released Judicial Protection Status of Intellectual Property Rights by Chinese Courts (2024). In 2024, Chinese courts accepted more than 529,000 intellectual property cases and concluded more than 543,000 cases. Punitive damages were applied in 460 civil IP infringement cases, representing a 44.2% year-on-year increase. In the "New Energy Vehicle Chassis" technical secret infringement case, the Supreme People's Court applied punitive damages in accordance with the law, awarding compensation of 640 million yuan.
In 2024, the Intellectual Property Tribunal of the Supreme People's Court concluded 167 plant variety cases, with variety rights holders achieving a 90% litigation success rate.
From 2013 to 2024, Chinese courts collectively accepted 1,145 civil monopoly cases of first instance and concluded 1,071 such cases. From its establishment on January 1, 2019, through December 31, 2024, the Intellectual Property Tribunal of the Supreme People's Court accepted 282 second-instance civil and administrative monopoly cases and concluded 243 of them, among which 97 cases were concluded in 2024. In 2024, Chinese courts found antitrust violations in 31 monopoly cases, representing a 2.1-fold growth.
