On July 7, 2025, the CNIPA officially implemented the Measures for Expedited Examination of Trademark Registration Applications. Compared with the Measures (Trial), the main revisions to the Measures are as follows:
(1)Expanding the Scope of Application: Trademark applications related to strategic emerging industries, future industries, provincial-level modern industrial systems, and industrial chains laid out around the development of new-quality productive forces are included into the scope of expedited examination,.
(2)Expanding Eligible Trademark Types: From originally only supporting word trademarks to marks composed of words, graphics, letters, numerals, three-dimensional signs, color combination, sound, and all types of combinations..
(3)Relaxing Restrictions on Goods/Services Names: No longer limited to the standard names listed in the Nice Classification of Goods and Services; but extended to all acceptable goods and services items publicly announced by the CNIPA.
(4)Standardizing the Handling Process, Applications failing to meet the expedited examination criteria will be notified to the applicant within 5 working days.
The Measures are streamlined into 11 articles. Eligible applications will receive an examination conclusion within 20 working days. The subsequent statutory procedures, including publication and opposition, shall still be followed.
